Meatoids — Pixel Invaderz Species Introduction

Meatoids are one of the most intelligent beings in the known galaxy. This is a short article on how they came to be and their place as a civilization in the galaxy.

Evolution

Many thousands of years ago, the overall look of the Meatoid was completely different from how they’re shaped nowadays. What their appearance was back then is not known beyond select individuals in their empire. But how did the Meatoids evolve to their current form? Going back a couple thousand years, their civilization went through a period where intelligence started to reach its peak and scientific as well as economic output was starting to hit a bottleneck. In order to keep progressing as a species, the decision was made to induce forced body transformations among the entire population. It is speculated, that there are only a few specimens left, that did not take part in the program, thus getting exiled. After most specimen went through transformation, first negative effects of the procedure started surfacing…

Biology

While intelligence reached exponential highs through the body transformation program, their appearance received a giant overhaul. The artificial parts of a specimen can be easily identified. Upwards from their chest, almost everything has been altered. The bumpy structure of the head is most apparent. The individual “meat looking” pieces are actually part of the extended brain, which features a small tail on the back of the head. The left and right flap of the lower head can be opened to expose their mouth, through which the Meatoids can communicate. The usual specimen also features one giant compound eye in the middle of the head. Another apparent feature of the Meatoid are its two arms that feature a pair of claws on each one. Four more but many times smaller claws are located on the lower part of their upper body. These are usually not covered by any sort of clothing, since they’re frequently used to manipulate small objects. When it comes to reproduction, Meatoids are a hermaphroditic species. One specimen can reproduce up to 5 times if conditions are right.

Society

The boost in intelligence also brought a giant boost for their society with it. Living conditions for the average citizen improved by a large factor, and scientific output went through the roof. With this strong output in science, the Centriplex was formed — one of the largest knowledge bases in the known galaxy.

Before the first formation of civilization, Meatoids mostly lived in small groups of 5 to 10 people. Nowadays, cities with populations of several millions are commonplace on their home planet. There, the average citizen lives with one to three other individuals in a household.

Government and galactic politics

Meatoids live in a thriving democracy which elects new leaders about every five earth years. On a galactic level, their civilization profits from the extreme levels of intelligence, as many other empires use their knowledge services for technological and military development. Because of this, Meatoids have mostly stayed neutral regarding politics although, being located in the center of the known galactic space, they have become a key player in trade with other empires.
